Setting Goals... Not Resolutions

8:00 AM

Setting a New Year resolution has never been something I did. Why? Why wait!? If it there something I want to accomplish and am waiting to start at the beginning of the year it must not be too important.

Goal setting had started becoming a huge thing for me during my late twenties. Now in my thirties it is even more important! I set goals for work, bills, traveling and blogging!

I wanted to share some new goals I have set and what I am using to document them.

Budgeting:
Following my budget has always been difficult for me. Groceries, bills, and expenses! I wouldn't keep track of them all. However. I can no longer stop ignoring it. I need to start adulting! Tracking items. Saving more. Getting thangs done.

To assist with this I use an app called Mint. It helps track bills, my bank accounts and I am able to create a budget with it as well. So far I have seen a trend in my grocery spending as well as when I eat out too much.

Travel:
I traveled quite a bit in 2016. Previously, I would normally fly maybe 3-4 times a year. In 2016, I flew 10 times! I dislike flying but have been trying to travel more. In 2017, I plan to fly (travel) even more.

For my trips, I opened a separate bank account. I have a little of my check go there every month. The account is at a credit union so it is difficult to withdrawal the funds. My plan is to use the money to travel international without using my credit card.

Shopping:
I love shopping. What woman doesn't love it? It is the thrill of something new. Now I am trying to shop with purpose. I write down things I need and purchase it on each individual paycheck. One thrifting mission I focus on shirts. The next paycheck set a  budget and shop for dresses.

Goals:
Now to the main topic: goals. I recently started a new Ph.D program and trying to prepare for the future. I started wanting to hit financial freedom goals. I am not under credit card debt but I want to purchase a condo soon. So I use ever note to write down any notes, my grocery list, blog post ideals and goals. I also plan career goals. This ranges from learning a new skill at work, taking a class outside of my program or listening to a pod cast to hear a different perspective.

Do you set goals or resolutions? If so what tips do you have on how you track them?

I am not a resolution person, but I live mindfully and conscious of every daily detail.

  3. I practice more goal setting these days. I keep track by checking in with my accountability partners. They keep me on point when I want to slack a little bit.

  4. I definitely love the idea of setting goals rather than resolutions. With goals you can group them accordingly and set deadlines beyond the year in which you set them.

    1. Yes! Setting dealing for goals can exceed the year your set them. Sometimes the priority of goals change so its nice to not have them locked to one year. :) Thanks for commenting
