My Thrift Story

8:01 AM

The first time I went thrifting was with my sister. She wanted me to come with her to find some 'thrift store gems'. I hated every minute of it.

I was so accustom to shopping retail. The clothes in the thrift store were not arranged according to their size and I kept sneezing from the dust. I tried to shop and browse but eventually just followed her around until she was sick of me and we left.

She started showing me thrift haul videos and outfits on instagram made by thriftanistas. So I started looking up outfit ideas and went to the thrift store again in an attempt to mimic the outfits. After four trips to the goodwill, I finally found something and then I was hooked. I found my favorite brands, colors and styles all at cheaper prices. So far I have thrifted in every city I have visited. I absolutely love a bargain!

Thrifting fits perfectly into my budget. I can't remember the last time I went to a mall to shop for anything. I shop on sale days and only for certain items when it isn't a sale day. I have shared my thrifting tips on the blog. You can find here and here. Like any new skill it is something you have to learn but once you understand it and your style it is so rewarding!

My newest craze when thrifting is to find cute decorative items for my apartment. I am not much of a DIYer but I will definitely try it since I have more space to be creative.

  1. I absolutely love the $3 dress! It looks gorgeous. My husband is fond of shopping at thrift stores. He still raves at his $9 Polo shirt and $6 Timberland jeans shirt. Me? I haven't been so lucky :-).

  4. I have shopped at a Thrift Store for things before. However, I have never purchased clothing because the section is just so unorganized an unsightly. Maybe now I will give it another go because you found some super cute stuff.

  5. I used to thrift occasionally, but never seriously. That has all changed since dating this man, as thrifting is one of his favorite past times. In fact, one of my new favorite dresses is from a thrift store and we only spent $2.50 on it. Major score!

  7. I really wish I had the patience. I really do try, but I think my lack of findings is due to location of the thrift store.

  8. I LOVE thrifting! You seriously can walk away with gems and wonder how you got away with paying $2.99 for a top that would easily be $30 in stores right now.
